he hears the truck slowing down.....then is ready to go outside!
here's the entrance to the tunnel....i don't remember how long
it is, but it seems to go forever!
working our way through denver.
coming into oakland on the freeway.
i can't believe that it's been 2 weeks since i last posted! time flies when you drive around the country facing detours in big cities, scary mountains in certain states, and crazy drivers everywhere! we tend to lose track of the date, as well as the day of the week. i know, sad. but at least we were able to head home for some needed appointments. en route, we encountered the famous Eisenhower Tunnel, which is a really long tunnel in colorado thru what seems like the top of the Rocky Mountains....when you come out on the other end, you begin a long (and scary) decent down the other side of the range. every trucker has stories to tell, and all i can say is that i survived THAT grade!! lucky for me, the weather was good so i did not have snow and ice to deal with.
we happened to be in oakland when the funeral procession for the 4 slain police officers was coming into the city. i tell ya, it was a very moving sight....hundreds of police cars, motorcycles, and EMS vehicles were driving two by two into oakland for the funeral services at the colluseum (sp). they all had their lights flashing, but in silence....no sirens. my eyes were tear-filled as we saw the overpasses lined with fire trucks, displaying the american flag, with the firefighters saluting to all the police cars below. it was an amazing display of respect and sorrow for the officers and their families. i have never seen anything like it. the picture doesn't show what it looked like very well...
